Forthcoming Publication
Many thanks to the editors at Streetlight Magazine, who have accepted my short story “Winter” for publication in the winter issue. The quarterly literary magazine was established in 2003 and is based in Virginia.
“Winter” is a story I wrote during a writer’s retreat with Claire Keegan in Ireland last summer. It’s a story about aging, love, and loyalty–and what can happen when these things cloud your vision–as illustrated by two mornings in the lives of a couple and their old dog. I cannot wait to share it with you.

Simultaneous Writing Projects
Each morning after breakfast, I sit at my desk with my second cup of coffee and work. Lately, I’ve been revising my memoir and one of my short stories, and also working on a new novel. It’s another story I started on retreat in Ireland last summer.
September: Turning 60
On the first day of fall, I’ll turn 60. I’m trying not to think about that number, and instead think about the chocolate cake. I’d better stay focused on my work, though–I’ve got a lot of writing to do. I’ve been submitting work to publications and applying to retreats. Some have asked for a headshot. I sent one that’s a couple of years old and realized I needed a new one. For my birthday, I set up a studio in my living room and made a self-portrait. This is not an easy task, especially with two dogs and a cat occasionally butting in! This is my new headshot.
