Here are two NH art exhibits you can see this summer! I’m pleased that my work has been selected for exhibits at the Silver Center for the Arts at Plymouth State University and The Lakes Gallery at Chi-Lin.
Iconic New Hampshire
“Iconic New Hampshire” will be a group exhibit curated by the Museum of the White Mountains, held at the Silver Center for the Arts at Plymouth State University, June 16 -September 30, 2023. The opening reception will be June 16, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
My portraits of Donald Hall and Alex Ray will be included. “Iconic New Hampshire” will feature 70 works from 35 New Hampshire photographers. The Museum’s assistant director said, “These offer a wide diversity of photographic subjects and interpretations on our theme for our exhibition—all providing a fascinating tapestry on the state of New Hampshire’s identity.”
Donald Hall, poet
Donald Hall, a former U.S. poet laureate and influential poet for more than 60 years, lived and died at his family farm, Eagle Pond Farm, in Danbury, New Hampshire.
New Hampshire’s people and places strongly influenced Hall’s writing. He published 20 poetry collections as well as memoirs, fiction, essays, biographies, children’s books, and books about baseball. He was the nation’s poet laureate in 2006-07.
Hall’s many honors include the National Book Award, the Poetry Society of America’s Robert Frost Silver Medal, and the Ruth Lilly Prize for poetry. He was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. In 2011, he received the National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama in a White House ceremony.

Alex Ray, restaurateur & humanitarian
Alex Ray is a well-known New Hampshire restaurateur and humanitarian. Ray founded the Common Man family of restaurants and businesses in 1971. After fifty years of hands-on work, these days he spends his time on charitable efforts around the world. These have taken him from Ground Zero after 9/11 to New Orleans after Katrina. He has gone on relief missions to Haiti and Honduras after earthquakes hit those island nations, to Puerto Rico following the 2017 hurricane disaster, and is currently working on his charity Common Man for Ukraine, which is raising money for children in families devastated by the war on Ukraine.

The Silver Center for the Arts will be open this summer Monday-Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Friday, 9:00 a.m, – 4:00 p.m. There is construction on Main Street in Plymouth as crews work to replace the 130-year-old water and sewer lines, but they have been doing a great job keeping traffic flowing, and there is plenty of parking at the two lots at the Silver Center, off of Court Street.
Capturing Beauty
The Lakes Gallery at Chi-Lin in Laconia, NH will include my work in a group, floral-themed exhibit, “Capturing Beauty,” from July 1 – July 30, 2023. The opening reception will be July 1, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Director-owner Suzanne Lee has run The Lakes Gallery at Chi-Lin since 1981. It is a charming and intimate gallery in a nearly 250-year-old farmhouse at 135 Eastman Road, Laconia, NH. Here, you can sip tea and wander the rooms looking at art. Before you leave, be sure to take in the gallery’s gorgeous gardens.
My portraits from this session with Kieran Sequoia will be included at this summer’s floral-themed exhibit at The Lakes Gallery at Chi-Lin.
The gallery hours are Friday: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Saturday: 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., and always by appointment.
