“I recently had the privilege of sitting for a portrait session with Maundy Mitchell. The session was a gift from my husband who recognized the fact that I am typically behind the lens and very rarely in front of it. While I greatly appreciated the thoughtfulness of the gift, I was apprehensive at first because it had been ages since I’d been the sole focus of a photographer and, after having had two kids and twenty years passing since my last headshot sitting, I wasn’t sure I wanted to see what the camera would capture. I shouldn’t have worried.
From the moment I walked into her studio, Maundy put me immediately at ease. She talked me through what to expect from the next few hours, while her colleague Donna used her incredible makeup talents to make sure I was 100% ready for my closeup.
Maundy then expertly took control of the session, guiding me comfortably through poses and facial expressions, while simultaneously arranging the staging and lighting to best capture the mood we were aiming for. I gave myself over to all of her suggestions and simply went with it, putting any of my self-doubt aside as I knew I was in great hands. Additionally, she is a genuinely warm, wonderful human being who has such clear joy and passion for her art. Spending that time with her felt like hanging out with a friend.
For the last two weeks, I have eagerly awaited my portrait reveal appointment with Maundy, which I actually just had today. I tried to whittle my choices down, but it was virtually impossible as each photo captured a slightly varying aspect of my personality…My husband and I wound up leaving her studio armed with a box loaded with prints and a framed version of Maundy’s favorite portrait from the session. Maundy’s artistry and ability to free her subject from the confines of their insecurities are remarkable and I am so grateful I had the chance to be her muse for a few hours. We have already booked a family session and it cannot come quickly enough!” – Sabreena
