Kathy wanted to participate in Extraordinary: the Over 50 Revolution because she wanted to join all the other women who have participated, and she said, “I felt it would revive my spirit.”
She said, “Women over 50 have fought, struggled, or possibly stressed over making right and wrong decisions about life issues. Our roles have made us wiser and stronger, striving for the confidence of a ‘maturing’ woman. In my opinion, we are feeling that growth/strength.”
“I know I’ve changed into a stronger, wiser woman and have dealt with life-changing traumas. It changed all relationships and eventually made me self-reliant.”
Kathy’s mother is her main role model. “If you met her anywhere, you would not know that she has had to power through much of life’s turmoil as a daughter (needing to be independent), as wife and mother. I am proud of my mom who was a young, single mother, and who had to pack up and move often as she ran a home.”
Kathy’s advice for other women is advice she would give to her younger self: “Embrace the YOU that you feel in your core, not what media portrays, or for others in your world. Realize your confidence and individuality.”
“I think the world needs more empathy. I feel that I strive to teach this to children in small ways.”
“I was overwhelmed at first about being photographed, but Maundy’s inviting warmth was comforting throughout my session. To say that she is an artist with talent and versatility doesn’t do her justice. She has vast interests and background that make you feel honored. More than that, you feel good your own skin! The photos are wonderful and can “tell all” of your layers. I’m thankful for this experience.”
