Musician David Lockwood came to the studio recently for a tintype portrait session. We had a conversation about the similarities between our two kinds of work, how much we love it, and how we are always striving for perfection (and does this really exist?).
Wet-plate collodion (tintype) portraiture is similar to my digital work in that I design sessions, follow processes, and guide people. But it challenges me to accept imperfections that occur as a result of one or more of the many steps involved in this hand-made work.
