Cymande initially contacted me for business portraits. \u00a0We met at my studio in Plymouth, New Hampshire to plan for her session the following month.\u00a0 She decided she would like to have her\u00a0family join her in that photo session. \u00a0We chatted, and she mentioned she would be in Paris by herself soon.<\/p>\n

I had been planning to travel\u00a0there to work on my personal project Life’s Work<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 I asked Cymande\u00a0if she\u00a0might be interested in a photo shoot in Paris; if so, maybe do it right, and start at\u00a0the Eiffel Tower one morning.\u00a0 \u00a0She had always wanted to do that. \u00a0Paris holds a special place in her heart; among other reasons, it’s where her husband proposed to her.<\/p>\n

Planning this day was a blast! \u00a0We talked about everything from hair\u00a0& makeup, to wardrobe and logistics.<\/p>\n

I’ve got some photographer friends from previous work in or near Paris.\u00a0 \u00a0Before this session,\u00a0\u00a0Chanon, Christina, and Hilde met me there. We walked, ate fabulous food, and visited museums.\u00a0\u00a0They helped me with\u00a0that\u00a0big personal project I mentioned, Life\u2019s Work<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0We also scouted locations for Cymande’s photo session.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0One morning at dawn, we met Cymande\u00a0at the Eiffel Tower. \u00a0Chanon took behind-the-scenes photos, Hilde carried my\u00a0bags, and they\u00a0both helped with styling, watching for traffic and passersby, and keeping everything perfect.\"\"\u00a0Behind-the-scenes photos courtesy of Chanon DeValois.

I love this portrait\u00a0for many\u00a0reasons, including the fact that her name, Cymande, means “dove,” and her middle name, Asada, is Japanese for “dawn.” \u00a0Not only did we meet here at dawn, but the bird theme carries through the bird in the sky, her tattoo, and the beaded birds on her gown.<\/p>\n
