The couple incorporated Native American traditions, drawing from James\u2019s heritage.<br \/>\nA Micmac Chief officiated the wedding. There was a smudging ceremony, where herbs were burned to drive out bad feelings and to keep bad spirits away.<br \/>\nThe chief wrapped the couple in a blanket to join them, after which guests joined in the fire ceremony. Each guest threw a small pouch of herbs into the fire as a symbol of transformation and newness.<br \/>\nA Native American friend played beautiful flute music throughout the ceremony.<br \/>\nIt couldn\u2019t have been a more perfect day.
